A Solitary Birthday Celebration in the Mall

As we celebrate our birthdays, we think of ways that we want to do, to give to ourselves, or simply not to do anymore. Usually, people have dinner with their families and closest friends to celebrate another year of life. Others go on a much-wanted vacation. The more traditional ones finally buy those overpriced pair of jeans, pair of shoes or the unreasonably priced pair of shades.
Whatever they want to do, it always requires a considerable amount of money. Second, it always involves other people. It always relies on the schedules of others, thus, sometimes, just to keep the circle complete, the birthday celebrator does the “celebration” not on the exact birth date, but an earlier or later date. To be really strict about it, technically, the celebration defeats the very purpose of the activity.
So the next time you are confronted with this kind of situation, why not consider another way of celebrating your birthday. If and when you can, spend some quality time alone. After all, you might just be surprised at how much fun it is to have a date with the one person who will never ever let you down, YOURSELF.
For first timers, the mall will be safest and the most convenient place to spend a “solitary birthday celebration.” As you stroll around, you will find displays of Zippo lighters, cigar accessories, or even that of a cigarette case. Then, you remember your father, your friend or your uncle who is so into these things and you buy an item or two for them. Now, would it not be a novel way of gift-giving?
As you get to your favorite shops in the mall, you try on blouses, shirts, shoes and bags and you eventually buy one for yourself… sort of a birthday gift. Then, y
ou can hit the coffee shop, take a sip of your favorite coffee drink… all these without the need for somebody else to be with you.
True, to others, you may look pathetic. But on certain occasions, you just need to have some quiet time alone. If that occasion happens to be on your birthday, do not panic. It is perfectly normal. And as you get used to the idea, you would be surprised at how much fun it is to be with yourself.
