Acid Reflux Medication

In a normal digestive process, the partially digested food is being forwarded by muscular movements from the stomach to the intestines. However, for some people, the stomach contents travel back to the esophagus from the stomach. This condition is known as acid reflux.

Common symptoms of this disease include heartburn, difficulty in swallowing, regurgitation, chest pains, dental erosion, hoarseness, asthma, dyspepsia, vomiting, and many others.

If not properly treated, acid reflux can last for several months. But drug treatment can play an essential part in the treatment process of a patient.

The most common medications used include the following:

Antacids. These drugs are used to neutralize the acids in the digestive tract and are primarily taken in for relief of mild symptoms, such as occasional episodes of indigestion and heartburn. They also act to incite the defensive mechanisms of our stomach by building up the secretion of mucous and bicarbonate. Most antacids can be bought over the counter even without a medical prescription. Moreover, these drugs are one of the first to be recommended by professionals to lessen the pain brought about by heartburn or mild symptoms. The three basic ingredients of antacids are magnesium, calcium, and aluminum.

Acid suppressants such as histamine blockers are also commonly used. Histamine blockers obstruct the production of stomach acids by alienating the actions of histamine. Histamine is a chemical in the body that promotes the production and secretion of acids in the stomach. Anti-histamines are available even without prescription and offers relief of symptoms in most of the patients with frequent acid reflux. Patients have to wait for 30 to 90 minutes for these drugs to take effect. But their effect also lasts six to 24 hours. In cases of severe symptoms, a patient may have to take two dosages a day. In some researches, histamine blockers have shown to improve asthmatic symptoms in those who endure from both acid reflux and asthma.

However, in a study dated 2001, it was suggested that histamine blockers occasionally impart complete relief of symptoms for dyspepsia and heartburn.

Proton pump inhibitors are also employed as a medication. They act to trim down the production of stomach acids by reacting with the cells found in the stomach wall which produce and release acids into the stomach. However, researches have revealed that the use of proton pump inhibitors poses some concerns. Side effects, although uncommon, include diarrhea, headache, itching, and nausea. Moreover, these drugs should also be stayed away from by pregnant and breast-feeding mothers.

Another medication that is generally handled is the use of agents which protect the mucus lining in the gastrointestinal region. This kind of drug acts by attaching to an ulcer crater so that it will be guarded from damage caused by digestive acids. It is advisable for people undergoing maintenance therapy with mild or moderate acid reflux conditions. Likewise, it has minor side effects, including constipation.

Anti-spasm drugs are also utilized to prevent acid and even non-acid reflux. A gamma-amino acid butyric acid agonist, an anti-spasm drug is generally used to abate the spasms in the muscles. Unlike most medicines used for acid reflux, it can also lessen non-acid refluxes and amplify the pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter, a muscle that separates the esophagus from the stomach and prevents backing up of stomach contents.

Poland Springs Water Coolers

Poland springs water coolers, from department and hardware stores, rrp £18.95, cartridge £3.30, lifespan 1 month, capacity 2 liters, reduces free chlorine; chlorine compounds; lead; copper. Does not increase sodium or reduce nitrates or fluorides. Special features: snap-on tab indicator for cartridge renewal. (Plastic work-top models also available.)

This water cooler looks good. It’s quite easy to pour and glass doesn’t that scratched, dull, look plastic gets. Setting tab on cartridge to next month is vague - you still have to remember when it is due for renewal. Tea is less cloudy and has a fresher taste.’ Star quality: * * * *

The Limbs agreed that filtered water in general tastes fresher and cleaner than tap water. ‘Ideally, we’d use the Poland springs water cooler for the kettle and cooking and the Filter Fresh water for drinking water. Tea, coffee and squashes tasted much better with filtered water and cooked vegetables looked a lot brighter.

FILTER FACTS

* Using an old filter may encourage bacterial growth. An out-of-date filter can also introduce previously filtered substances back into the water.

* Water should be treated like any perishable food. Change it as often as recommended and wash your filter jug regularly.

* Fridge filters reduce chances of bacterial growth. Some recommend that the water is kept at a temperature of 40C.

Refrigerator Water Cooling Tips

If your refrigerator fitted with arrowhead water cooler is less than a year old, the problem will probably be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. Most refrigerators of this type have a one-year parts and labor warranty. So be sure to check with your servicing dealer first.

Let’s assume, however, that the problem i.e. water coolers is not dispensing water properly is not covered by the warranty. Your refrigerator has a dual-function valve with one coil supplying water to the icemaker, the other supplying water to the chilled water reservoir. The valve and coils are located at the back of the refrigerator behind the lower access panel.

Although it’s possible that the water dispensing switch has failed in the closed position, it’s more likely that the innards of your water valve are defective; allowing the flow of water to continue even though no voltage is applied. To determine which coil supplies the in-door water dispenser, you can follow the route of the plastic water supply tubing. The supply tube for the chilled water reservoir usually runs through the lower portion of the refrigerator. The tube to the icemaker goes up toward the freezer compartment.

To check the valve’s operation, disconnect both wires to the suspect coil and then turn on the water supply to the refrigerator. But keep a bucket and some rags handy! If the water continues to flow from the dispenser, you’ve isolated the water valve as the culprit.

Changing the dual valve assembly is easy.
Here’s what to do:

* Unplug the refrigerator and turn off the water supply to the refrigerator.

* With the lower access panel removed, disconnect and label the four wires connected to the coils (Fig. B). The wires need to go back on the corresponding terminals of the new coils.

* Disconnect the incoming water supply line from the inlet fitting. Keep the bucket and rags handy.

* Remove the valve assembly from the compressor compartment by removing the screws from the mounting bracket (Fig. C).

* Carefully unscrew the plastic nuts that secure the supply tubingto the two outlet ports of the valve. When reinstalling the tubing onto the new valve, take special care because the plastic nuts are easy to “cross-thread” and then they’ll leak when reattached. While it’s important to reconnect the wiring exactly, most valve outlet ports have different diameters so you can’t install the tubing backwards. It’s what service technicians refer to as a “no-brainer.”

* Reassemble the new valve in reverse order, turn on the water supply, plug in the power cord and check for water leaks at both the inlet and outlet connections.

* Have a helper use the arrowhead water cooler while you remain at the new valve checking for leaks. It’s also a good idea to let the icemaker complete a cycle before moving the refrigerator back in place. A small leak in that location could go undetected for weeks and ruin your floor.

Bottled Water and Water Cooler Technology

The continental habit of buying bottled water and water coolers has caught on fast here, but investing in Ozarka’s natural spring water is less pricey and cumbersome than buying bottled water in bulk, and manufacturers point out that filtered water can also be used for cooking and making hot drinks.

Standard, work-top jugs are still popular but fridge door and glass models are relatively new additions to an ever-expanding range. Varying widely in style and shape, jug filters usually have a 1 to 2 liter capacity and most work on the same principle. Tap water is poured into the top of the jug filters down through a cartridge containing ion-exchange resins and silver-treated activated carbon (’food-grade’ and safe). The cartridge reduces substances like lead, aluminum and chlorine compounds (chlorine taints the taste of tap water). Once filtered, the water in the pouring jug is cleaner and better tasting.

Although filtering principles are the same, the substances filtered vary. For example, most jugs leave beneficial elements like fluoride intact, but some filter calcium and magnesium too. In hard water areas, these minerals occur naturally, causing scale in kettles and a cloudy film in tea and coffee. However, some manufacturers (like Aquastream) point out that calcium and magnesium are beneficial, so you may prefer a filter which leaves them intact.

If you want to reduce a specific substance, check your mains supply first. Your water supplier is obliged to provide, free on request, a detailed breakdown of the water in your area. Although alarming reading (some sound more like chemical cocktails than water) the pesticides, heavy metals and cleansing agents won’t necessarily exceed legal limits. Jug filters will reduce many, making your water safer (and perhaps more palatable) than already . . .

MEG and Nigel Limb live in South West London (a hard water area) and never drink tap water. ‘We buy Evian because our tap water seems to have a ‘treated’ flavor. The children don’t like it either.’ Fruit squashes disguise the taste for Lauren, six, and Tessa four. ‘But I’d feel happier about giving them drinks made with filtered water,’ says Meg.

The Limbs tested Ozarka spring natural water for a week, for better looking, tastier tea, coffee and vegetables, Meg used filter water for cooking and making drinks. She encouraged the children to cut down on squash by enticing them with ‘fresh water’ from the jugs.

Electrical Bodies and Frequency Nutrition

It’s time to let go of useless, silly measuring yardsticks that place the wrong emphasis on counting calories, fat grams and carbohydrate grams instead of raw, vibrant nutritional foods.

The approach is simple for attaining a higher level of health and beauty.  It begins with a new way to perceive your electrical body.  Did you know that you are made of living frequencies constantly moving to and fro?

Diet products are probably among the worst offenders on the market, as they contain slow-killing poisons such as cheap, processed colors, chemical sweeteners, milk solids, white flour and many others.

While not getting too complicated or oversimplifying what life force or electrical energy really is, energy healers and quantum physicists define it as the intelligent source of all energies that animates our world.  A living conscious matrix that moves in distinct, deliberate ways and has an active energy field.  When you increase the flow of this power in your body you will naturally become more happy, slim and healthy.  And best of all, it’s relatively easy to manage.

It should be clear to us by now that if you eat and drink foods of a low vibration you cannot expect to avoid illness.  What it becomes your daily eating routine your body and mind quickly degenerate until you wake up one day wondering what went wrong.

If the blueprint of our electrical bodies reveals waves of electrical frequencies we must revise our way of thinking when it comes to how we maintain this blueprint.  If we are made of electrical energy we need a diet and supplementation fitted the same way.  All other approaches to dieting or wellness, whether well meaning or not, are limited because they miss the core of our very beings.  For instance, how could unnatural foods with no light sustain your light energy body?  Even if these foods are low in calories and fat grams.  They just create barriers to your potential.

Foods best fit for human consumption should be fresh and raw (except meats and fish) because of the high harmonic vibrations they contain that help restore your own vibrational life.

Overcoming Childhood Obesity

Research and studies show that our children are growing fatter by the day. Many families all over America are struggling to keep the weight of their children within reasonable limits. As a parent, I know that it’s nearly impossible for me to look into the tear-filled eyes of my son and refuse food.

So, what’s the alternative?  Perhaps a weight loss camp for teen?  Studies show that the number one reason for obesity in children and teenagers is not junk food and colas. It’s actually TV.  Children tend to plop themselves on the sofa and munch away happily when they are in front of the TV sets. But, once the set is off, their natural buoyancy will lead the children to do stuff and to move their body. They will then be diverted from eating.

Recreational after school activities are a must if you feel that your child is beginning to put on undesirable fat. It is better to begin these activities as early as possible. The more weight the child gains, the harder he has to work to shed it. Football, swimming, skating, bicyling and walking are just some activities he can participate in. Structured and disciplined exercise is possible only when one is put into a formal environment. That
is why an overweight child simply HAS to be put into an after school program of this kind.

And the after school program may be as liberal as a Mom and her teen taking a walk or bicycle ride - anything to get some exercise and feed the muscles for better burning of calories and ridding the mind of depression.

Cell Phone Radiation Blockers - a Necessity?

Mobile phones have seemingly become the cause of all of the hustle and bustle of the world’s population, but this was not always so. Teenagers have no idea what it was like before cell phones when real land lines were active and you could not be reached at the speed of light – as great as cell phones are, they can also be quite deadly, thus the advent of cell phone radiation blockers nowadays.

Research over the last five years has suggested that cell phones, through their electronic components, can emit a charge of static electricity that could effectively cause gas to ignite which has lead many gas stations to ban cell phone use at the pumps and, in fact, some have installed dampening fields to block cell phone use. Though the studies are inconclusive as a whole, it is still a precaution that many people appreciate.

Electronic Magnetic Fields, or EMF as it is commonly referred to, is an invisible field that all electronic components put off. We cannot escape them – especially in this technologically advanced world because doing so would cut ourselves off from all of the hustle and bustle we have all become so engrossed with. As a result, we have seen ourselves becoming more dependent and our health has been going down hill because of it.

Research has been conducted on the effects of electronic magnetic fields and their effects on our bodies and the research is not pretty. Prolonged use of cell phones can cause a myriad of illnesses – one of which is cancer. Other illnesses that can be attributed to cell phones are migraines and nausea. Neither of which are incredibly fun or enticing to anyone.

Curing the effects from a high yield, constant electronic magnetic field from cell phone towers is easy – we leave. But how do we stop using cell phones? Do we completely shut ourselves off from the world and become a technology hating hippie in the woods of West Virginia or do we take precautions to prevent ourselves from succumbing to these illnesses? I personally prefer the latter and it is easier than you think it is.

There are zero point technology products on the market today that greatly decrease the harmful electronic magnetic fields that are produced by cell phones. They cannot completely hinder or get rid of them but can decrease them enough as to not make them a great concern. Aulterra is one such company that has spent the last several years in research and development to come out with an affordable product that does just that. The Neutralizer is a small sticker, much like an antenna booster, that you affix to your cell phone. That is all you have to do and you are protected by bio-altering EMF and it will not harm your cell phone in any way, shape or form.

There is no need to put yourself or your family at risk when all it takes is $30.00 to protect them from the harmful invisible rays found in our cell phones and other electronic devices.

Need to Lose Weight Fast

What is the real cause of childhood obesity? Or obesity at any age for that matter.  There are a variety of factors including emotional eating.  But the fact is, people of all ages want to lose weight fast.

Easier said than done, right? Well, the first step (with your doctor’s approval) is to avoid all junk and if you’re really serious eliminate dairy, flour and all sugar products. That should jump start weight loss like nothing else will. And you don’t even have to take an herb or drug for that, like Adipex Phentermine or something similar!

Keep an eye on every thing that goes in your mouth. Sometimes the garnishes can richer than the food itself. Accompaniments too can be very rich. Remember that it is the easiest thing in the world to eat something without realizing that it was something that you should not have eaten. Selective memory you know!

Control that sweet tooth. Remember that sweet things generally mean more calories. It is natural that we have cravings for sweet things especially chocolates and other goodies. Go easy on theses things and each time you consume something sweet understand that it is going to add on somewhere.

Stick to a meal schedule. Try to have food at fixed times of the day. You can stretch these times by half an hour, but anything more than that is going to affect your eating pattern, the result will either be a loss of appetite or that famished feeling which will make you stuff yourself with more than what is required the next time you eat.

Sit down to eat peacefully only when you are hungry. Some of us have the tendency to eat whenever we see food. We use parties as an excuse to stuff our selves. Understand that the effect of a whole week of dieting can be ruined by just one day’s party food. Whenever you are offered something to eat do not decline it completely bit just break of a nibble so that you appear to mind your manners and at the same time can watch your diet.

Stop snacking in between meals. Do not fall for snacks in between meals. This is especially true for those who have to travel a lot. They feel that the only time they can get a bite to eat is snacks and junk food. The main problem with most snacks and junk food is that they are usually less filling and contain a lot of fat and calories. Just think about French fries - tempting but terribly fattening.

If you MUST snack - do so on vegetables or an apple. You might get the pangs of hunger in between meals. It is something that you can very well control, or even better, try munching on carrots. They are an excellent way to satisfy those hunger pangs and are good for your eyes and teeth.

Go easy on tea and coffee. Tea and coffee are harmless by themselves. It’s when you add the cream and sugar that they become fattening. Did you know that having a cup of tea or coffee that has cream and at least two cubes of sugar is as bad as having a big piece of rich chocolate cake?

Drink black tea/coffee minimally. Black tea or coffee can actually be good for you. But personally I would like to recommend green tea as a coffee alternative. The caffeine in the coffee is not really good for you because it is an alkaloid and can affect other functions of your body like the metabolism.

It’s a good idea to have some idea of the calories that most food items have. If it is a packed thing then the label is sure to have the calories that the substance has.

How to Detox the Body the Natural Way

Are your energy levels feeling low? When your energy levels begin to feel low, your body will begin to ache, and you will have difficulty concentrating as your mind feels drained. If you are feeling like this, then it may be time for you to detox the body. The detoxification process primarily involves cleansing of the blood and vital organs in the body such as the liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, skin and lymph. Detoxification is all about cleansing the body through the elimination of toxins and other impurities from the blood stream.

The first step to detoxifying your body is to decrease the toxins in your body. The first steps in the process involve reducing your intake of cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, saturated fats and refined sugars. The next step is to reduce the amount of health care products that you are using, as most of these products have harmful chemicals in them. These chemicals may exist in small amounts, but they can add up over time to wreck havoc on your body. The same thing goes for chemically based household products and cleaners.

There are a variety of different methods for detoxifying your body. Do a little bit of research on the different methods and means that are available to you, and choose the ones that both best suit your lifestyle, and that best suit your personal preference.

- Juice fasting is a popular method of detoxifying your body, and involves drinking fresh vegetables and fruits in the form of juice. Some popular food items include carrots, celery, spinach, cabbage, pineapple, apple and cranberry. You should avoid citrus fruits during the juice fasting process. Juice fasts can last between one and three days.

- With Water fasting, only water is consumed. This gives your digestive tract and your vital organs a much needed rest so that toxin build up can be eliminated.

- You can also simply change your diet, which may involve adding whole grains, vegetables and fresh fruits and other natural foods in place of fast foods and packaged foods that are traditionally rich both in sugars and fats.

- Make use of the sauna as a regular part of the detoxification process. Traditional saunas warm the air, which warms the body. Infrared saunas on the other hand warm the body without warming the air. Both types of saunas remove toxins from the fat cells in your body, allowing them to leave your body through your sweat. Choose the option which best suits your individual tastes, as both have incredible health benefits.

- Another option available to you is skin brushing, which allows you to remove old skin cells from your body while stimulating your lymph system and drawing toxins out through your skin. The best brush for this process is crafted from soft vegetable bristles.

There are a number of other options available to you for detoxifying your body, each of which will improve your health in different ways. It is vital for you to know how to detoxify your body before you have a thorough understanding of which programs are ideal for you.

Superfoods for Weight Control

It’s no secret that science is just learning what traditional folk medicine has known all along - fruits and vegetables are great diet foods. And that goes for older ones and teenagers interested in weight loss.

And the component that gives fruits and vegetables that - staying power - Fiber. So, if fruits and vegetables are the “keeping-it-off superfood groups,” fiber may well be the “keeping-it-off super-nutrient.”

Protein is another super-nutrient. It’s becoming more scientifically accepted that protein may help to curb appetite and control cravings, even boosting metabolism in the process.

But it’s imperative that you choose your proteins wisely, because like all other foods, if you’re eating more than your body needs, it’ll show up on the scale as a gain, instead of a loss.

The following superfoods are smart, low-calorie choices that will benefit your weight loss efforts:

Green Tea - Researchers suspect that the catechins (helpful phytochemicals) in green tea may trigger weight loss by stimulating the body to burn calories and mildly decrease body fat. So indulge in either a hot cup or a nice tall iced glass of green tea.

Broth- or tomato-based soup - Soups can help reduce hunger before meals and increase your feeling of fullness.

Low-calorie green salads - Having a low-calorie salad - which is not defined as one that’s loaded with croutons, high fat dressings, and cheese - as a first course can help you feel full, thereby reducing how much you eat with your main course. Wisely choose your ingredients, and its high fiber content can be the key to helping you fight cravings later in the day.

Yogurt - Including dairy products as part of your healthy diet may promote your weight loss efforts. Choosing a light yogurt may help you fight off hunger pangs due to its combination of protein and carbohydrate.

Beans - A great combination of fiber and protein, beans help you feel full longer, which means they may work to curb your between-meal appetite.

Water - Water is your body’s lifeblood, and you should be drinking it through your day. It’s a great no-calorie beverage, and you can get it by drinking unsweetened tea, flavored unsweetened mineral water, regular water with lime or lemon, or even in your cucumber. In addition to helping flush toxins from the body, it can also help you feel full. So when those hunger pangs strike, try drinking a glass of water before grabbing that snack.

High-Fiber, Whole-Grains - Whole grains in general help boost fiber and the nutritional value of your meal. One of the easiest ways to give your daily diet a whole-grain boost is to have a bowl of higher-fiber whole-grain cereal as breakfast or a snack - preferably those without sugar.
