Maya Riviera, Riviera Maya, Mayan Riviera. You can call the area either ways. Mexicans refer to call Riviera Maya while foreigners call it the Mayan Riviera or Maya Riviera. Whatever you call it, tourist just cant stop traveling to this remarkable destination in Mexico. The region is a world-renowned dystopia that offers the greatest beach resorts, ancient Mayan cities, natures’ reserves and the world’s second grandest coral reef. Maya Riviera is a tourism district parallel to the Caribbean coastline of Quintana Roo, Mexico. This district starts from the city of Playa del Carmen and ended at the village of Tulum. The Riviera Maya was originally called the Cancun - Tulum corridor, but in 1999 it was renamed as the Riviera Maya. This location was an important tourist, commercial and religious center. Before, it remained isolated from the rest of the country due to the lack of adequate roads but when Cancun was assembled, people want to extend the resort location and thus Mayan Riviera was discovered.

Maya Riviera’s attraction is a combination of three scenic destinations in Mexico. Tourist can go around the region for a week or two to Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Talum. Playa del Carmen is the grandest in the Mayan Rivieara but is just small enough where you can walk just about anywhere you need to go. The location of Playa del Carmen and its nearby attractions makes this the perfect holiday destination for a Caribbean Vacation. Cozumel on the other hand is the grandest island in Mexico. You can visit the area by taking a ferry ride from Playa del Carmen. Cozumel has ranked for years among the top five dive destinations in the world and also a perfect area for diving and snorkeling, while Tulum has the comfortable beaches in the region. Aside from that, famous maya ruins are found here where a tourist can tour. The area also has the pleasant restaurants and hotels though much smaller as compared to other Maya Riviera tourists spots.

The three towns mentioned has vast beach resorts that are just along the coastline. The Riviera Maya is famous for its large scale all-inclusive resorts. In Tulum, the area has some wide powdery beaches with generally larger surf. A multitude of beaches lines across the coastal road that heads south from the Tulum Ruins. Popular beaches in the area include Azulik, Coqui Coqui and Ocho Talum; while Playa del Carmen has beach with resorts and beach clubs along the shore. Notable beaches of the area are Isla de passion, Playa de San Juan and playa Corona. Other known beaches in the Region are Akumal and Puerto Aventuras. Akumal Beach Resort is simple but comfortable. This is an All-Inclusive resort nestled along the brilliant coastline of the Riviera Maya while Puerto Aventuras is a resort style marina with a full array of services and a short but wide sandy beach. There’s plenty of pure sand for sunbathing.

The second grandest reef system in the world, the Great Maya Reef, can also be found in this region. It runs along the coastline and stretches from Cancun, Mexico to Roatan, Honduras. The region is also surrounded by natural preserves. In this part of the Mexican location is where you can see exotic tropical animals peering or flying through the branches. A unique and complex underground river system also flows beneath the surface and visitors with magical caverns, caves and cenotes There are also hundreds of archaeological sites, remnants of the incredible and timeless Mayan civilization, not only in Tulum, that are just around the region. There is also a spectacular and plentiful marine life. With Maya Riviera, there are a lot of places to explore.
