A travel is about how you are connected with the area, the people and anything uniquely opposite. And how are you affected, influenced and discover how you’ve become after you have visited your location.
For most travelers, they pick out Mexico because of its elegant beauty and the things that make it Mexico. Mexico is the area which you would feel that you are at home. When you go there, it’s not really about the area but the spirit on how all things encompass and become one Mexico. There are events that are truly incomparable. These events truly reflects not only about the area but also the culture, people and the laughter that makes us feel home. Aside from bullfighting, which there’s something significant, one of the original things that you can only find here is the country’s national spirit, charreada and Mexico’s most treasured forms of sportsmanship. Charreada is Mexico’s national sport which has developed long time ago during the time of hacienda system existence. As the system faded away, the people noticed the importance of the sport to be preserved, so they held a meeting and started the Asociacion Nacional de Charros. Until now, the sport remained as one of the favorites of most Mexicans.
The charreada is a style of rodeo developed by people in Mexico who are interested in keeping the traditions of the charro alive. A charreada is held within an arena consisting of a lane 12 meters wide by 60 meters long leading into a circle 40 meters in diameter. The participants must wear traditional charro clothing while performing. Preceding the events is an opening ceremony in which the organizations and participants parade into the arena on horseback, usually accompanied by a mariachi band playing Zacatecas March. The charreada consists of a number of scoring events staged in a particular order, nine for the men and one for the women. Events for men are Cala de Caballo, Piales en Lienzo, Colas en el Lienzo, Jineto de Toro, Terna en el Ruedo, Jineteo de Yegua, Manganas a Pie, Manganas a Caballo and El Paso de la Muerte. Escaramuza is called for women. Two or more teams, called asociaciones, contend against each other and they are judged by both style and execution. These opposite scoring events have their own way of style of performance on how to rope or tie the horse.
Even if this sport is very distinguished in Mexico, winners do not expect Large sum of money to be given away because it is widely known that it is the least thing to happen and to the fact that charreadas are considered an amateur sport, not professional. Charreada winners usually take home horse trailers or saddles and of course, the spirit of being the champion.
Charreada is a 400 year old traditional competition. The people of Mexico really believed to preserve this king of tradition. Although superficially similar to an Arizona rodeo, the Mexican Charreada differs substantially and I would say that this event has a Mexican lineage as compared with bullfighting that almost all Latin countries observe. For tourists who want to see fun, this might be the best way to spend your getaway holiday in Mexico. Plus, this is worry free. There’s no group campaigning against the practice for abusing animal rights.
