Graphic design and Web design
August 20th, 2008 Posted in UncategorizedThe job market involving graphic design would be one of the hottest by 2014. Graphic design, designing websites and computer animation are going to be careers which most people would choose. Though computer graphic design would throw up plenty of job openings, the market would be highly competitive. Some people love it as a career, for others purely as a hobby while some may like to use it as a part time freelancing tool. These are the main reasons for this. Careers in computer graphic design require a four year college degree, or Bachelor’s Degree. Some technical jobs can be obtained if you complete a two years college degree or Associates Degree. This kind of career however can not progress without further educational qualifications. Formal education is a must, if you want to pursue this career.
Of all those who have taken up computer design work as a career, almost one third work as freelancers. Half of the freelancers would hold steady jobs in either a computer graphics company or employed in some computer related organization. Freelancing is a good option in this career since there would always be demand from smaller firms for a computer graphic designer. These small companies can not afford to pay the fees demanded by large design firms.
There are several other career options in computer graphic design and web design. You can make a career in the print medium like books and magazines and the audio medium like advertising or electronic, like films and television. If you seek a career in a large or small specialist company, you might not get so much in terms of variety but you could expect a steady stream of work To keep your clients happy and get involved in new projects, you have to show them that you work hard. This is the responsibility of every freelancer in this profession.
A college degree and burning ambition to reach the top are not enough to pursue this career. You must have pronounced skills in using computer graphic soft ware as well as other computer skills. You should make a portfolio which carries a collection of some of your best work. These portfolios are important tools to bag assignments and may be a deciding factor on who gets a project and who would be kept waiting.
Your aim after finishing college and deciding what you want to do is to get that first entry level job. There are online job boards, online or print classified ads or the college or university placement desks, where you could get to know the available opportunities in computer graphic design jobs. Online job boards, classified ads as well as job for hire boards are the places where freelance job opportunities are displayed. Work for hire boards? work much better for design careers than other careers, because everyone understands that this is an expensive endeavor. Good luck in pursuing your graphic design career!
